I Finally got an apartment! Actually I moved in already on Thursday to a small 2 room apartment on Charlottenstr - Düsseldorf city center. My colleagues at the office have been telling that the area doesn't have the best reputation but for my needs it is quite ok. What has happened in the past does not always reflect on what is going on today!
It truly was nice to move out of the hotel! Now I can again cook something and live a bit more relaxed life. Although nobody comes to make my bed or breakfast in the morning it feels so good to have something you can call home for this year. And if you believe in Karma I think I found the perfect place: when the landlord gave me the keys to the place I just could not believe what was on the keyring: "oikea valinta" - the right choice!
This weekend I visited my aunt in Deideshaim - small place near Mannhaim. It has been some 10 years of my last visit here but it didn't feel like that. Everything was exactly the same as I remembered :) Truly a nice getaway for a weekend. Just chatting and drinking wine.

This week was really full of parties. The carnival hit the streets of Dusseldorf. On thursday people stopped working around noon and had their 1st beers at the office. Woman took over the townhall and cut mens ties just for fun. Everyone had a costume! The carnival will continue one more day. In total 5 days of drinking :D I for one could not drink that much and had to stop today, on the 4th day.
Another great thing happened on friday. I think I found an apartment from the city-center. Not that special place but still a new home. The landlord will return to here on Tuesday so hopefully I can get the contract signed on that day and moved in. The place is around 40m2 and located on very central location. Once everything is in place I´ll have some pictures and maps about the place :)

The first week in Düsseldorf is reaching the end at least on the business side. So far my new hometown seems to be quite interesting. It is a 'small' german city about the size of Helsinki. The heart of the city is in Allstad, the old town. The area is full of small bars, restaurants and shops and every time I have visited the area theres people all around. My colleagues claim that during the weekend the area will be completely packed.
Work also started this week. I'm working as an architect in a team of 10 at Vodafone Global. The teams role is to design and develop solutions for all Vodafones globally managed services. So there is quite a lot of things to do for the team. Naturally after 3 days at the office I'm quite lost with most of the things happening but at least I had a rapid start to few projects so my guess is that after 1 full week I'll be onboarded and fully functioning member of the unit.
Currently I have only limited connections to internet so I'll be posting news irregulary. I'm hoping that I can get my living conditions improved within a week or so. The appartment hunt has begun!
